Doornfontein Solar Photovoltaic Solar Energy Facility near Windburg, Free State Province

Doornfontein Solar PV (Pty) Ltd is proposing the development of a photovoltaic (PV) solar energy facility with a generation capacity of up to 300 MW. Specific infrastructure will form part of the facility namely PV panels, 132 kV substation infrastructure, including an on-site facility substation and collector/switching station, a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), access roads (internal and external), a construction camp, laydown areas, paved areas and Operation and Maintenance Buildings

The proposed development is located ~35 km southeast of the town of Theunissen and ~5km south of Winburg, situated in the Masilonyana Local Municipality and the Lejweleputswa District Municipality on the affected properties known as Portion 0 of the Farm Doornpoort No. 19, the Farm Rheezicht No. 2242, the Remaining Extent, Portion 1 and Portion 2 of the Farm Little Saxony No. 39
 
An area of 2500 ha is under assessment for the development footprint.
